Customer Notice: Lottery Proceeds Advance-Fee Scheme

Q:        I received a check from Enterprise Holdings and a letter explaining that the check represents my share of a United Kingdom-based lottery prize. What should I do?

A:        The check is fake and didn’t come from Enterprise. The letter includes a phone number for you to call to talk to a “claim agent.”  DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER. It will connect to you someone who will instruct you to deposit the check into your bank account, and then to withdraw money from your account for wire transfer to the lottery company for “payment of taxes.” The lottery check will fail to clear and you will lose any funds you wire to the lottery company.

We have reported this matter to federal and local law-enforcement authorities. However, if you received a counterfeit check or have been a victim of this scam, you should contact your local authorities or the FBI immediately.
