CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP
Our commitment to our communities goes beyond financial contributions; our employees are equally generous with their time and talent. In 2008, Enterprise gave more than $16 million to the United Way, with $11.2 million from employee giving and $5.4 million from the Foundation's matching contribution.
For more than half a century, we have worked to be an engaged corporate citizen that makes a real difference in the communities where we live and work. Our company's foundation has contributed more than $100 million to thousands of local non-profits focused on community improvement, education and environmental stewardship. And, each year our employees contribute their time and skills to thousands of national and local organizations in the areas we serve.
Perhaps the biggest way we give back is by addressing the parts of the world touched by our business. Over the years, we have built our industry's most comprehensive environmental stewardship platform, which focuses on addressing the impact of our fleet and ensuring the future sustainability of our business.Among the highlights:
- We invest heavily in renewable fuels research, giving $25 million in 2007,
- We gave $50 million for the 50 Million Tree Pledge, an effort to plant 50 million trees over 50 years.
Being a good steward ...
- In its first year, our customer carbon offset program offset 42,000 metric tons of carbon – the equivalent of saving 4.8 million gallons of gasoline and 98,000 barrels of oil.
- Over the past several years, the Taylor family and their companies have contributed or pledged more than $120 million to environmental initiatives.
- In 2008, Enterprise gave more than $16 million to the United Way, with $11.2 million from employee giving and $5.4 million from the Foundation's matching contribution.
